08.17.02

Aah, Kansas.  Oh, how your interstates are so smooth.  Oh, how your towns are so vibrant.  Oh, how your drunk college coeds congregate right outside our window at 3am.

More to come, real soon...

08.22.02

Ok, so it's been a long time since an actual update, so let me fill you in on what's been happening around here, and just some other random thoughts:

I now live in Lawrence, Kansas, home of the University of Kansas and a weird ratio of frat boys to artsy types.  The pool area in our apartment complex is usually busy all day, but no one is actually in the pool.  There are usually about 8 or 10 guys and 4 or 5 girls out there working on their tans.

I graduated from ISU on August 5th with a BS in journalism.  Fitting if you ask me.

No, I don't have a job yet, but I am looking.  There are some interesting production companies around here, and in Topeka and Kansas City, which are both about 30 minutes away from Lawrence.  I'm also looking at area news stations, but I'd rather work for a production company.  I think.

On Wednesday of this week, I got a root canal.

Last night I saw "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," and it was pretty good.

Phish has announced four upcoming concerts.  I will be at Madison Square Garden on New Year's Eve for sure.  For all my friends who teased me, and said that Phish had broken up:  Suck it.

The Avalanches album "Since I Left You" is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time.  If you like artists like DJ Shadow and Kid Koala, you would definitely love this album.  Buy it.

The "send a message to my cell phone" link has changed.  Unfortunately, you must know my cell number to send me a message.

Sonja is going to attend KU in the spring to get a Graphic Design degree.  I would love to do that, also.  I'm thinking of taking some web design classes.

Snarbles was updated yesterday.  It's been a while since I've had a chance to update it, but I hope to be able to get back to more frequent updates.

Well, that's all I can think of at the moment.  We're still not completely done unpacking, though we're down to the last couple of boxes.  Unfortunately, we've run out of space, so I guess we'll be donating a lot to goodwill.  Or maybe I'll offer the stuff up for sale on eBay.  Who knows.  I'm going to bed.

08.31.02 Got my Phix

Last night, Sonja and I went to Abe & Jake's, a cool bar here in Lawrence, and saw a Phish "Tribute Band" called Phix.  It felt a little strange at first hearing a band cover Phish, but it was a good time.  I have to wonder what it is like to be a full time musician in a "tribute" band.  The show was really good, overall.  By the end of the night, Sonja and I were dancing in front of the stage.  On the walk home, we got drenched by the sprinklers in front of a convenience store.

While dining with my aunt and uncle about a week ago, we learned that there are no malls in Lawrence for a reason.  I guess the city government has fought to keep malls out of Lawrence.  That way, the downtown shopping district flourishes.

So, the other day, we drove east to Olathe, looking for a mall, found ourselves in Missouri without realizing it, and ended up in Overland Park.  We eventually found a mall, but it was more of a huge shoe store with a Mr. Bulky's and a food court.

Now, I can sort of understand the logic that puts two (or more) of the same store in the Mall of America in Minnesota.  That place is so big that some people will never see all of it.  The mall in Overland Park was nowhere near that big, yet it had two Victoria's Secrets, two Bath & Bodyworks, and two Dillard's department stores.  I have yet to completely figure out Kansas, but I'll keep you posted.

Today, I watched as ISU beat KU 45 to 3, and then contemplated taking the Iowa license plates off my truck so it wouldn't be the focus of anyone's frustration.

And if you haven't noticed, I have completely redone this page.  Again
